A red and blue clad Peter Parker perched out on the railing outside the base. He was hunched over and staring down at the mask in his hands which seemed to stare back up at him.

Natasha had been stretching her leg, already mostly healed if still a little sore. Honestly, she was getting too old for this superhero stuff. And the clothes too. Because, really, someone old enough to at least be a mother if not grandmother should not be parading around in a sports bra and sweatpans.
"You know, Pete, keep sitting on the railing like that and you might just fall off," she leaned against the railing next to him.

"Huh? Oh..." He startled a little at her voice and then settled in again. "Not so scared about the falling anymore."

She looked down at the city below them. "Yeah... but I'm sure the people of Washington, D.C. would prefer you don't go splat on their lawns."

He shook his head, "No, I'd catch myself long before that. That's why I'm not afraid of the fall."

"Of course you would," she nodded slightly, red braid falling over one shoulder.

"I would." He replies a bit defensive. "Its what I do now..."

"What you're supposed to do or what you want to do?" she asked, curiously.

"Is this what you wanted to do?" He's not snapping back or being a smart ass here, its a genuine question that he asks while still staring at his mask.

"I don't know what I wanted," she shrugged slightly. "As long as the job pays, though, who really cares?"

"Yeah." He slips on the mask and then nods. "I guess you're right." And really, the money was good. Since he'd gotten here it was one of the few things he didn't have to worry about. All that he was able to send back to Aunt May was good too. Of course, he'd rarely seen Aunt May since starting here but at least he was helping her out now.
He's still staring out over the ledge, now through the lenses of his mask, his face now unreadable.

"Darling, I'm always right," Natasha flashed a bright smile. In one fluid movement, she was stradling the railing next to him, clutching it near his leg.
"So... what has you thinking so intensly?"

He shrugged his shoulders slightly, "Nothing really, just...ever have one of those days when you wake up and its like 'holy crap what am I doing! I'm a superhero?!'?"

She shrugged slightly. "I have days when I wake up and think 'shit, I'm a superhero, who wants to kill me for it?'. Of course, I'm no stranger to chemical enhancements and the like." Shrugging again, she balanced herself and pushed a stray lock of red hair out of her eyes. "At least you have the right stuff to be a hero."

"Kinda one of those days too." He nodded and sighed, "The right stuff, what does that even mean? I don't think so, whatever it is."

Natasha sighed slightly. "It's difficult to explain. I guess it means that if I jumped over the ledge right now you'd be the kind of person who'd save me. Whereas, say, a villain or some completely indifferent would just let me fall."

"Please don't do that." He says quickly looking at her and her grip on the railing.

"What? Jump off the ledge?" Natasha arched an eyebrow. "Of the many colorful deaths I have envisioned for myself, plummeting three miles into the captial of a country I dispise hasn't even made the list."

"You don't think I'd catch you?" Now he sounds a little hurt.

"I think you'd try. But if I was that determined to kill myself, I don't think I'd let you catch me," Natasha nodded slightly. "You don't have to worry, I'm not the least bit suicidal. Just slightly insane and sometimes homocidal."

"I could. I mean, its what I do now right? I would so catch you before you went splat." He leans forward slightly and looks down over the railing. "Oh yeah, I would save you."

"See? I told you that you have the right stuff to be a hero," she grinned slightly, looking down as well.

He looked at her and then smiled beneath his mask realizing he wasn't so mopey anymore. "Okay, I'll buy it for now. Thanks Natasha."

"It is what I'm here for," she shrugged slightly. "To give inspirational, yet vaguely disturbing, speeches and to kick people into action."

"You're not gonna kick me are you?" He asked with mock fear shying away from her.
