"I didn't know I was a mutant until I was twelve," he said, "and even then it didn't matter much. Most of my friends thought it was cool. We...they liked to light things on fire..."

"I was four," Wanda said softly. "Magneto didn't want to waste time or take chances that our mutant genes would be dormant. He messed with Pietro and I, activated our genes early. When I was six, he locked me in an aslyum because I couldn't control my powers at all. The humans that ran the place where terrified of me, they'd keep my hands bound by a straight jacket so I couldn't use my powers." She shrugged slightly. "At the very least, I started out a better parent than either of mine."

"I'm sorry, " he said. "Magneto picked me up when I was seventeen. He altered my genes quite a bit; he thought if he did it enough, I'd be able to generate flames. He was wrong." He leaned back and closed his eyes. "I know it's nothing compared to what he did to you, but you aren't alone."

She shrugged slightly. "The only person who has the slightest idea what I went through is Pietro. And, well, I'm sure the whole town knows how well we get along..." Biting her lip, she removed one arm from her knees and placed her hand on his shoulder. "For the record, I'm sorry about what he did to you, too... and you're not alone either."
